A few days ago I went with my youngest son to his daughters/my granddaughters dance recital. What a joy that was! On the way home, I noticed the skies were getting heavy and dark in the distance. And I remembered that the Word of God says that thick darkness is under His feet when He comes down…as rain! I shared this with my son as we drove, pointing to the dark clouds forming in the sky. The rain that cleanses the air and waters the dry places and makes the garden to grow comes from thick darkness! When its as heavy as it can get, when it’s the darkest and the cloud can hold no more water, “the bottom drops out’ of that dark cloud until the cloud is gone and the blessing has been poured out! In the Bible, rain often represents Holy Spirit who is the Living Water.

Joel 2:23

Be glad then, ye children of Zion (God’s Kingdom), and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.

Two days later, the dark clouds formed in my relationship with that same son. Partly my fault, and partly his, 4 days later the clouds are still very dark and heavy over our relationship. My granddaughter is affected. It is painful. I woke up this morning knowing without a doubt it was a set up. We have a real enemy who hates God, hates us who are created in God’s image, and hates unity in the family of God or any family! The dark clouds are not my son’s fault or mine although I have asked forgiveness from my son and also God for not overlooking an offense. My son has not repented and doesn’t think he needs to. But no matter what, this thick darkness is UNDER God’s feet! The dark clouds will drop the rain and the sky will be blue again and the warm sun will shine on all of us again, even if its not done the way I think or when I want it to happen. Because the thick darkness over my family relationship is under GOD’S feet! He is coming down to drench our parched ground, and the sun will shine again. Even if our garden doesn’t look the way I imagine, I will rejoice in the goodness of God! I think its beginning to sprinkle a little! I feel it! Oh how much we learn from God’s creation!

Romans 1:19,20

For what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood from His workmanship, so that men are without excuse.

When the Son of God died on the cross in our place, the sun did not shine for 3 hours.

Mark 15:33

… there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

King David quoted II Samuel 22:19 in Psalm 18:9

He parted the heavens and came down with dark clouds beneath His feet.

Its interesting to me that the sermon I preached to my son 4 days ago, two days later I got an opportunity to practice what I preached with that same son! Because I recognize that as being the case, I am at peace after praying for 2 days that God would comfort and convict and forgive both of us and now I am in perfect peace because I know God is coming on the dark clouds with a cleansing rain! Praise God!

Fear not! The darker the clouds in your life mean the more beautifully the Son of God will shine into your circumstance. Pray to your Heavenly Father, speak what His Word says about your situation, repent of sin and ask forgiveness so there is nothing standing in between you and your Creator. Plead the Blood of Jesus over yourself and all who are involved. Then rejoice, let go, trust God, and watch Him work. If it doesn’t turn out exactly the way you thought it would, then praise God anyway for He is only good! He knows the plans He has for you, plans for welfare and peace, plans to give you a future and a hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)
